About this blog

This blog is about nonverbal communication. But it’s also about me.

How does a classically trained pianist with two advanced degrees in music become a nonverbal communications trainer and coach?

Good question.

Looking back on my career, I’ve never taken the straight path to anywhere. Thinking I wanted to teach music in the public schools, I completed my bachelor of music in education only to find that teaching elementary school music was not for me. I went into private teaching for awhile and then pursued a Master of Science in Teaching. I enjoyed grad school and university teaching immensely and planned to complete a doctorate in music.

Yet “the best laid plans of mice and men often go astray.” My career suddenly took a turn in a different direction when I attended a week-long nonverbal communications workshop with a friend. I found the information so powerful, useable and practical that I dropped everything else and began training and focusing on this work full-time.

That was eight years ago, and I’ve come a long way since then. I now realize that my seemingly strange career change wasn’t so strange after all; I’ve literally been in nonverbal communications training my entire life. I’ve gone from working primarily with educators to now focusing my work in the corporate world. I’ve been incredibly lucky, blessed, and frankly, amazed at the response. And although I’ve put in plenty of hard work along the way, what makes my work a success is the fact that the information is so useable and practical. People don’t want ideas, they want something that works.

This blog is about nonverbal solutions to everyday problems. My intent is to break-down nonverbal communication by sharing my personal experiences and insights. You’ll find that this new way of talking about nonverbal communication is truly unique. Join me as we go beyond words.
